The woman behind the name - Jennie Brownscombe (1850 to 1936)
Jennie Brownscombe lived the life she painted. Raised in a log cabin in rural Pennsylvania, she supported herself through teaching and illustrating books and magazines. She sold the rights to her artwork to be reproduced as prints, cards, and paper goods, bringing scenes of rural American life into everyday homes. She later founded and served the Art Students League. Her story reflects the lasting value of storytelling and artistry in American culture and history.
